A controversial past

For over the last few years, Dolce and Gabbana have been causing themselves a lot of controversy for when it came to their out spoken political views on society and their religious ways of life. This has effectively been damaging to the brand and causing a decrease in their sales and even a 'Boycott' which was a protest against the brand. As society is moving forward, people today are a lot opened minded to what they were 10 years ago, accepting every kind of person and their paths in life. This shows that D&G are not keeping up with modern times e.g.) the 'Modern women', their views have made the brand very hard for people to be loyal customers to and have damage the brands reputation.

March 2015-  Dolce and Gabbana gave an interview stating that they didn't agree with IVF and that it was natural for gay people to adopt and start a family. " We oppose gay adoptions, the only family is the traditional one" "Children of chemistry, synthetic children, rented uterus, semen chosen from a catalogue". To say Dolce and Gabbana are both gay, this was a very confusing and conflictive statement. Towards the LGBTQ community this was highly offensive and caused a meltdown on social media with the use a spreading the hashtag '#boycottdolcegabbana' trending on twitter. Even celebrities like Elton John, who has 2 IVF babies, was spreading the message. D&G stores were protested from outside by the LGBTQ community.

June 11th 2018- Stefano Gabbana comments under an Instagram photo of Selena Gomez saying ' Ugly', a few days later on Instagram he comments the word ' No' under a photo of Kate Moss  showing her bare un-photoshopped legs. These comments caused outrage on social media, saying that the choice of words Stefano used was an act of bulling and being out right rude. As both Kate Moss and Selena Gomez are respected industry professionals and have young fans that follow them, Stefano comments were inconsiderate towards young fans and their appearance.

November 2018- First debut for a runway show, showed in Shanghai China. "The Great Show" was the first debut for D&G products to be sold in china, to advertise the runways show, Dolce and Gabbana realised a teaser advert showing a Chinese model struggling to eat a pizza with chopsticks. This was coincided very offensive towards Chinese culture and stereotyping their people which D&G need as customers. Between all this commotion, Instagram page "Diet Prada" exposed a series of messages that Stefano Gabbana had sent to the page calling the Chinese people "dog eaters" and "China ignorant dirty smelling mafia". This caused even more major upset for the Chinese people and the D&G china show was cancelled, leaving many big Chinese celebrities to boycott Dolce and Gabbana. This lead to a public 'sort of' apology from D&G saying they were hacked but many people discarded this apology and large global retailers have pulled out from selling Dolce and Gabbana products.
